You know what? I bet you're wondering about what's going on with Bluebottle, which is merging to become CakeSpy Shop + Bluebottle Art Gallery, and which is having an awesome Grand Opening Event on May 8!
And so here's a bit of what I've been up to:
After doing a mural for Cake Eater Bakery in Minneapolis, what can I say--I was in the mood to mural again. And so in the back of the store, right where I sit, I created a scene which I'm calling "The Battle of Baker's Hill" in which Cake and Pie are about to attack one another with various weapons of shankitude. It makes me smile every time I look at it, I won't lie.
And the pugs helped.
It excites me, possibly a little too much, that I have a credit card machine, new business cards, and a self-inking stamp which have the shop info.
This is a gallery that has far more stock than simply my own artwork--and although it is now my working studio and the place from which I write for the site and create CakeSpy artwork (I still bake at home!). So it's exciting to be surrounded by great art and products like Ira Glass Finger Puppets, great new stationery, and cool artwork!
Already I've been able to meet a bunch of super cool customers, some of whom are readers of CakeSpy! So along with selling them cool cards, art, and gift items, I get to chat them up about their favorite bakeries, baked goods, and ideas for future CakeSpy features! Score!
My shop is located in Capitol Hill, Seattle, which makes me a neighbor to such awesome businesses as Honey Hole Sandwiches, Traveler's, Oddfellow's, Babeland, Cupcake Royale, Molly Moon's...and so many more!
A Sweet Opening
And it's all coming together for a totally sweet Grand Opening Party on May 8 (that's a Saturday), from 5-8 pm! It's an open house, so feel free to come by, enjoy some delicious Trophy Cupcakes, hear music by Exohxo, see the mural for yourself, and check out my latest series of paintings, entitled "Scenes from Capitol Hill"--it's comprised of all sorts of locals-only scenes, drawn in cupcakes (preview of some works in progress above--yes, that is a cupcake reading Capitol Hill Seattle!).

What could be sweeter than Hipster Love? These sweet greeting cards, along with several other designs by the super-talented Rubina Design, are now available in the store!
Even sweeter than the designs though is the story behind the designer (from their site):
At Rubina, our designs are aimed at celebrating the everyday. We hope you find something that expresses your own story and that you can pass along joy to others through our products.
Purchasing Rubina products also provides opportunity for women in developing countries. With our success, we give back a portion of our time, talent, and profits to help women entrepreneurs around the world. To hear more about our social mission, click here.

Hello, Bluebottle Fans! My name is Jessie Oleson, and I am the new owner of Bluebottle Art Gallery (along with my dear husband, Danny Oleson). We are having so much fun so far at the gallery, making a few changes (including a sweet mural in the back!) and preparing for a grand re-opening on May 8 as we bring in more artwork from my company, CakeSpy Shop!
And there is a lot of other exciting stuff going on. Tomorrow is our first Artist Reception, from 5-8 p.m, as part of the Capitol Hill Artwalk. We will have a totally sweet collection of paintings by Ryan Berkley of Berkley Illustration. Here are some of the paintings on show:
...and here are the details about the show!
Mother nature never looked so dapper. Ryan Berkley continues his exploration of an ancestral anthropomorphic animal world with a new collection of animals wearing their Sunday finest.
April 1 - 30, 2010
Free and open to the public.
April 8th, 5 - 8 pm
Ryan Berkley creates comic book inspired art and prints for your walls or family photo albums. Perhaps best known for his "Animals in Suits" series, Ryan likes to tackle surreal subject matter in a very friendly way. He works from his home in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Lucy and their wacky epileptic dog, Walker.
Please come on by tomorrow, April 8, from 5-8 p.m. to check out Ryan's work and to meet the artist! Of course, the paintings can also be purchased online here. But don't hesitate, this awesome won't last!
